My 4 star review is graded on the curve, proportionate to its cost. For serious personal cooling outdoors, I'm not sure if this would be the greatest, probably more like a 3 star rating, but for its cost and for what I use it for, it's totally competent.

Puts out an okay amount of air, is safe for kids - if you touch the foam blades, they stop moving. This one is more durable than the more expensive one I got from the drugstore. I'd gotten this one from Walmart once, then my baby bit through the foam blades and I replaced it with a pricier one that wasn't nearly as good. We use these to cool down the kids' food on their plates and I'm totally satisfied with these. I was smart enough to buy two this time!

UPDATE: you can't really replace the batteries on this unit. As soon as you take the screws out (BTW, seemed like they were stripped before I even ever tried to remove them) the whole thing falls apart and is hard to get it back together again. I put new batteries in and I could get it EITHER to close, or to work. It worked with me manually holding stuff together, but never could align it to work while closed and the little sideswitch immediately falls out, so you have to try and hold it in place while trying to close the shell. Basically a nightmare. I bought a similar one at Walmart once for $1 and it didn't have this problem, so it's not a you-get-what-you-pay-for proposition. It's just badly designed, which s sad because it's otherwise awesome. So if you're okay with using it until the weak included batteries run out, you'll be happy. Otherwise, keep looking.

My baby can use this with out fear of injury. The kids play with these all day. More powerful than expected. Worth every cent. I bought five one for each child.

what else can i say? air flow is sufficient. comes in handy if you have hot flashes! small and fits in purse.
