This product is a direct factory replacement, so in one respect it fills the bill. If you have one of these Bissell Auto-Mate Hand Vacs this is your only option when your filter gets dirty. You can clean the screen, but not the HEPA Filter, so when your filter gets dirty you have to replace the screen, as well as the filter. Although these are 2 separate parts, they are only sold as a unit. It's a waste but you have little choice. Bissell won't sell you the filter by itself, so it costs more to maintain.
I called Bissell to inquire if the filter was available separately, and their customer service had no idea what I was talking about. Worse they couldn't find the vacuum in their list of products, they asked me if I was sure it was a Bissell. So there was really nothing to discuss. Their customer service has a way to go...
The vacuum is a pretty good product, but keep in mind that it is more expensive to maintain than it should be.
If you are debating about getting a new filter or keep cleaning your old one - buy a new one!

We have little inside dogs and the littlest one sheds like crazy! We use to buy lint rollers by the dozens until we got the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Handheld Vacuum, Corded, 33A1...it certainly saved us money to say the least. We have hardwood floors so everything seems to stick to the furniture. The vac picks up the hair and also some dust. After having it for awhile and cleaning out the filter, I started thinking about getting a new one. To clean the old one I would take the screen and filter apart and smack the filter against the trash can, then vacuum it, and blow it out with compressed air outside. You would be surprised with how much dirt and dusk I would get out of it. After while I noticed I was not getting as much - which I thought was due to the vac losing suction. Then I got a new filter and I sucked up a tumbleweed! Regardless of my efforts the old filter was just to impacted and seemed to be impeding the suction. The new filter made all the difference. Overtime you don't notice the vac using suction because it happens slowly, but you can tell the difference with a new filter.
I am all for saving money but a new filter does improve the performance of the vac. In my opinion it is worth the money.

Too expensive as I have to change at least monthly at $10 each time. I wish it had a washable filter!!
