Unlike Sodastream's proprietary 14-oz. CO2 cylinder, $15 exchange, this product uses a standard paintball 20 oz. CO2 cylinder which can be refilled locally in most locales. My local supplier refills a 20 oz. cylinder for $6. I was a little concerned when I read the description for the larger Flavorstations that those models use the full size Sparkler, but this one uses exactly the same Sparkler. If you have a local supplier of dry ice you can refill for even less. Once it melts inside your cylinder you have your refill. Some selected Walmart and Meijer stores carry Penguin brand dry ice. This model only accepts the 0.5 L bottles, so that will be a drawback for some. For me it is the best choice, considering just myself in my house. I really like that I won't be lugging home those heavy 2 L bottles from the grocery. My favorite is diet caffeine free cola, and that seems to be the one that is out of stock most often at my Kroger store. I won't have to worry about that now. I always bought some of the grandkids' favorites too, and those usually went flat before their next visit. Now I can have their favorites on hand and make just enough.

This unit is just 15" tall, and will fit under my cabinets. The larger Flavorstation models are 18" tall and that is 3/8" too much for my cabinets. It is narrow and doesn't take up much counter space. The narrow base does make it a little wobbly, so I removed the four rubber feet and it is more stable now.

You can buy this product for less at the company's web site, $49.99, plus free shipping. At the same time you can order extra bottles with no shipping charge for those. I ordered two extra bottles at $7.99 each. With the coupon code FLAVR20 I bought all, the FS100 + 2 extra bottles for 20% off, $52.78. I ordered on Sun. evening, Dec. 16, shipped Mon., Dec. 17, and delivered on Tues., Dec. 18, before 10 AM. That's another advantage of ordering from the web site. I have found that vendors process the orders at their web sites faster than orders through Amazon.

I have plenty of choices for syrups at my local Walmart. They carry the Sodastream flavors. I have already sampled the diet root beer, and I think it is as good as the major brands. The included pumps seem a good idea, and I would have liked to be able to use them, but they don't fit my Sodastream syrup bottles and my Walmart doesn't carry Primo's flavors.

Update, 6/11/2013

Primo is no longer offering free shipping and coupon discount. The current price is $35 plus $17 shipping charge, total $52. On their website the FS100 is the only model still for sale, leading me to think that that the 14 other models have been discontinued. The company has shifted their focus away from their beverage makers back to their water dispensers after poor results.

I bought this product about a month ago and i love it. It is easy to use, most of the syrups they sell taste pretty great, and like the title says its saved me money. I love the energy, cola, root beer, and citrus flavors. They do have a slight "diety" taste most notably in the citrus, but its still pretty yummy. I knocked off 1 star because they only give you 1 bottle with the machine and they arent that big so if you have multiple people who want to use it your going to have to buy more bottles for the machine or do what i do which is to carbonate the water then poor that into a cup and add the syrup then. I used to buy 2 to 3 red bulls a day (i work extremly early in the morning, dont judge ;p ) those cost 2 to 3 dollars a pop. I can get by with 1 bottle full of the energy drink a day. So yes like 9ish dollars a day in savings from this machine!
A few tips:
Definatly use COLD water it makes it taste much better and no one likes warm soda.
If your drinks are coming out too bitter its probably over carbonated.
Dont forget to use the red release button, I forgot to once and it shot my bottle to the counter, no damage done but water everywhere and my cat was definatly not amused by the loud bang ;)

Great gadget! The only problem is finding a place to fill the CO2 cylinder

We use our Primo Flavorstation, which was bought directly from Primo, frequently until the CO2 cylinder ran out of gas. Took it to Dick's Sporting Goods to refill, as someone said the cylinder is the same size as that of paintball guns. Unfortunately, Dick's refused citing that the instructions on the CO2 cylinder says to be serviced by Primo only. Now we can't use this until we can find a place to refill the CO2 cylinder. so, figure out where to refill CO2 before you buy this nice gadget.
