Minutes to 380F
Rating by : A. Berger,
after you read a hundred fryer reviews, you realize many have different expectations of their fryer, so their reviews are biased by their own priorities, not if the fryer is worth the money or not. my priority was speed to achieve and maintain the oil at true 380F frying temperature, while being small and cheap enough to be worthwhile for once a week use serving 1-2 people. using highest smoke point Rice Bran Oil, the first quart covered the heat coils to the bottom of the basket, while another pint to quart was needed to properly immerse the food. using a 500F digital thermometer (calibrated to boiling water at 210F), i measured the oil getting from room temperature to 380F in 4 minutes, while the DF55 dial was set at 355F. i dropped a half pound of french fries in, and measured the oil dropped down to 310F within a minute, then raced back up to 380F 2 minutes later. this is a TRUE food fryer which seals the food by flash frying the outer coating, then maintaining the heat needed to cook the inside properly, which is really critical when making Tempura. thanks to Amazon, i got an open box unit ship+tax still under 60% off MSRP. my second choice was Presto 06006 Kitchen Kettle Electric Multi-Cooker and Fryer because it appears easy to clean, with cover and thermostat for the same price as a Fry Daddy, however I was not confident a Presto 1200w bowl embedded heating element unit would get as hot as fast as this Waring 1500w exposed heating element unit. Fast heating also means you can make many batches of fry food fast, so this small 4x5x7" basket size won't matter since you can make multiple batches with Waring faster than a large bowl fryer like the Presto GranPappy.
Nice sized fryer for light home use
Rating by : Chet Brewer "Chet Brewer",
I've had this fryer for a couple of months and generally like it for home use. The safety plug is a little painful to use, but I guess with a bunch of hot fat around its probably worth the hassle.
The good
- it heats up quickly especially with the cover on. Usually ready in about 5 minutes or so
- It is easy to clean up, you remove the heating element and then remove the enamel coating insert and pour out the oil. Most of the pieces are dishwasher safe so the clean up is straight forward.
- Heat recovers fairly quickly in between batches.
- I have made several batches of really good french fries, sweet potato fries, and fried squid in this unit using olive oil as the base
Not so good
- when filled to the proper mark it will overflow if you are not careful how you add the food and carefully shake/move the basket until the overflow settles down. Walls should probably be an inch higher
- there is a fair amount of odor, you can definitely tell food has been fried in the house
Best small fryer!

I originally bought the Cuisinart CDF-100 fryer because this unit was always out of stock. This was the one I wanted. The Cusinart fried good, but clean up was a lot more time consuming. You had to pour water in the unit while its on your countertop. With this, the oil box is seperate from the base. You can throw it in the dishwasher or wash under the sink.
This basket is nice and big, the side walls of the oil box are high and probably double the size of the Cusinart, less oil splattering everywhere. The cusinart has a charcoal filter for smell. I fry with peanut oil, the oil has no smell compared with cheaper veggie or canola oil. This unit has no charcoal filter, you don't need it. Lots of condensation would occur if there was a filter. Everytime I opened the lid to the Cuisinart, I had to wipe inside of the lid, if not, the water would drip in the oil and you get the popping sounds from the oil.
So why do I have this after I have the Cusinart? The basket on the Cusinart rest on the bottom of the frying box. The interior of the box is coated with a thin non stick coating. The coating got scratched in a few spots and I'm not going to fry in that. This happened after only a few weeks after I bought here on Amazon. Amazon's policy is returned only if unopened or defective. I didn't want to deal with the hassle and just ordered this. I'll probably give Cusinart a call soon. But its not worth it to me if it will cost me money to ship it, I would rather throw it away. With this Waring unit, the basket rest on the heating elements. The heating elements do not touch the bottom.
Spend the extra few bucks for this unit and you might have to wait because this is always selling out.
