THE COOK-TOP USUALLY HAS FOUR TO SIX ELECTRIC BURNERS (AKA SURFACE ELEMENTS). EACH IS A COILED SHEATH WITH A WIRE IN THE CENTER AND NO MOVING PARTS. WHEN THE WIRE RECEIVES ELECTRICITY, THE WIRE BECOMES RED HOT, WHICH HEATS THE METAL SHEATH BY CONDUCTION. THEN THE SHEATH GLOWS RED. YOU SEE THIS GLOWING WHEN THE ELEMENT IS TURNED ON.

It's been a pain for a while with the inconsistent heat from the Whirlpool stove. My landlord sent a mechanic twice and he just couldn't "fix" it. Sparks and smoke came out from the burner adapter occasionally and there was no tolerance of fire risk at all then. I then decided to purchase the burner and rewire kit out my pocket to replace it. Takes only $30 and 10 minutes, works like new. Cooking is a joyful work again. The replacing is very simple and needs no professional tools. Just make sure the stove is unplugged before working.
One thing needs to be aware of is the bad odor when you first turn the burner on. I believe it's from the coating of the burner and it's toxic. I had the windows of my kitchen open, set the burner at mid-heat for about 5 minutes until the smoke and odor was totally gone. Then I turned it to high-heat to make sure it functions as well. Now it heats up in a very short time and the heat is very consistent.

I have tried at least two other burners, which never worked. This burner worked as if it was the original burner.

Product delivered not as advertised in photo: chrome medallion instead of black; delta base instead of Y base. Awaiting balance of order to check for match and fit with Whirlpool drip pans. Unable to post the photos as advertised and as delivered on this board.
