The Mint Plus Automatic Floor Cleaner from Evolution Robotics keeps dust, dirt and pet hair under control for you. Designed exclusively for hard surface floors, Mint Plus sweeps and mops using dry and pre-moistened cleaning cloths.

With features like the Pro-Clean Reservoir Pad and expanded cleaning area, Mint Plus can mop further and better than ever before. And with faster charging and longer run time, Mint Plus can cover more ground more often for everyday clean floors.

Guided by the enhanced NorthStar® Navigation System 2.0, Mint Plus cleans methodically by moving back and forth across open areas in straight lines, working around furniture and rugs, and cleaning along baseboards. Mint Plus’s compact design gets into tight spaces, under furniture and into other areas that are hard to reach with traditional mops and sweepers.

Mint Plus is easy to use. Simply attach your cleaning cloth of choice, choose sweep or mop and let Mint Plus clean for you. Since Mint Plus is not a vacuum, it operates quietly so you – and your pets – won't be disturbed while it cleans.

NorthStar Navigation

The NorthStar Navigation System works like an indoor GPS that helps Mint keep track of where it has been and where it needs to go. Specifically, the NorthStar Cube projects a signal that Mint uses to determine its location. Then as Mint starts cleaning, it builds a map of the area as it goes, marking walls, obstacles and drop offs as it encounters them.

Using the NorthStar Cube as a reference point, Mint can map and clean up to 800 square feet either in a large open space or by discovering adjacent rooms. In mop mode, the cleaning area is restricted to optimize cleaning while the cloth is wet.

Mint Plus Robotic Hard Floor Cleaner
Cleaning Cycle
Mint starts by cleaning open areas, moving methodically back and forth across the floor in parallel lines. As Mint encounters obstacles, it decides how to handle them – either cleaning around them and then continuing on its path or turning around, saving the area ahead for later. Periodically, Mint will return to these spots and clean them before moving on to an entirely new area.

Once Mint completes open areas, it follows with a perimeter sweep along the edges of furniture and walls for a complete clean.
Mint Plus Robotic Hard Floor Cleaner
When Mint is finished cleaning, it returns to where it started and parks itself so you know right where to find it.

Cube-to-Cube Cleaning
New with NorthStar2, Mint Plus can travel from one Cube to another to expand its dry sweeping area up to 2,000 square feet in a single cleaning cycle. Set up is easy. Simply place a Cube in the first area you’d like to clean and set additional Cubes set to different channels in other rooms or areas you’d like Mint Plus to reach. As Mint Plus encounters each new Cube it will lock on and keep building its map while it cleans.

Only on Mint Plus- Additional Cubes for Mint 4200 can be used to set up different cleaning areas in the home without having to move the Cube from place to place, but Mint 4200 cannot clean from one Cube to another automatically.

Pause / Resume
New with NorthStar2, the cleaning cycle can be paused to change the cleaning cloth by pressing any button or simply picking Mint Plus up by its handle while it is cleaning. The map of area covered is retained while paused so when Mint Plus resumes cleaning it can continue cleaning areas not yet covered. Only on Mint Plus.

Quick Clean Mode
Mint Plus can be set to clean only open areas and not perform a perimeter clean so you can cover more ground more quickly. Only on Mint Plus.

Pro-Clean Reservoir Pad

The Pro-Clean Reservoir Pad dispenses liquid throughout the cleaning cycle, continually refreshing the Pro-Clean microfiber cloth with fresh fluid. The fluid reserve keeps the cloth damp so Mint Plus can mop up to 350 square feet in a single cleaning cycle.

Fibers on the re-usable Pro-Clean cloth attract and trap dirt, oils and grime from the floor, so you can clean effectively using just water or mild solutions.

Mint can both dry sweep dust, dirt and hair and wet mop to get out deeper dirt and grime from your hard surface floors.

Sweeping & Mopping

Mint Plus's dual modes let you easily maintain all your hard surface floors with one device. In Sweep mode, Mint Plus uses a dry sweeping cloth to pick up dust bunnies, pet hair and grit from your floor. Use popular disposable cloths or Mint Plus's specially designed dry sweeping microfiber cloths which can be washed and re-used hundreds of times. Mint Plus comes with 2 reusable microfiber sweeping cloths.

In Mop mode, Mint Plus uses a pre-moistened cloth and a special back-and-forth mopping motion to pick up deeper dirt and grime. Mop mode can be used with pre-moistened disposable cloths on Mint Plus's Multi-Purpose cleaning pad or with the Pro-Clean Reservoir Pad and microfiber cloth. Mint Plus comes with 2 reusable Pro-Clean microfiber mopping cloths.

With faster charging and longer run time, Mint Plus is always ready to clean for you. Mint Plus's battery lasts up to 4 hours dry sweeping or 2.5 hours wet mopping. Works well and hassle free
Rating by : FFDR, rating 4.0 of 5.0

I use the Mint 5200 to clean the hardwood floor in a 22'x22' living/dining area and for a separate 9'x15' kitchen. It does an excellent job despite a large number of obstacles like area rugs, cabinets, dining table, side tables etc. It sometime looks like it will get stuck in some narrow weirdly shaped corner, but it always finds it way out and does not seem to skip anything.

The Mint 5200 comes with two different cleaning pads, one for dry sweeping and one that has liquid reservoir for wet mopping. A set of two reusable clothes to be used with each pad is also provided. I always use the dry sweep mode first and then do wet afterwards.

The setup is pretty straight-forward. The navigation cube goes to corner of the dining table with flashing blue light pointing into the room. Then a cloth is attached to one of the cleaning pads and the Mint is ready to go. Mint first finish the living area, then continue to clean the kitchen before it goes back to its starting point. There is a staircase leading down from the room, and Mint backs away w/o falling, though the manual recommends to block the staircase as a precaution.

The clean up is simple as well. Detach the cloth and recharge the Mint. That's it.

I have to say that dry sweep mode is ok, but not very impressive. Mint simply rubs the floor with the cloth which get covered in dust quite quickly, and is not really able to absorb "larger" pieces dirt like breadcrumbs. However, this is workable, if the floor is not too dirty to begin with, and some care is taken to remove the "larger" particles first.

In any case, the wet mode is what I need most for my hardwood floor, and I am happy with enough the result. Even with plain water the Mint leaves the floor clean and shiny.

A few tips after 2 months:
- Mint spends a lot of time navigating and recalculating the routes when it encounters chairs and obstacles. It takes over 2 hours to dry mop the area mentioned above and not enough power left for finishing the wet mopping. So, I remove chairs from the floor, it greatly speeds up the cleaning process.
- Two reasons can cause the liquid reservoir not working properly. I have run into both: 1) the cloth is not wet enough before beginning the wet mopping. Making it wet (but not dripping wet) would solve the problem. 2) the wick cap is clotted. I used diluted Murphy oil (1:100) and noticed that no liquid was dispensed anymore after a few usages. I called Mint Customer Service and learned that one shall not use Murphy oil or any soap based cleaning product as they will clot the wick cap. Since then, I have been using Bona (carried at Home Depot) recommended by the Customer Service, and the liquid is being wicked out nicely.
- Before throwing away the clotted wick cap, try to thoroughly rinse it without pulling its fiber. Mine works perfectly fine with Bona after the rinsing.

After using Mint 5200 and Roomba 780 both for 6+ months, I find I like Mint better as it is quiet and less abrasive to the surface. (See my review on Roomba 780). Now I own 2 Mint 5200 to clean multiple floors simultaneously.

Wonderful helper

We bought the original 4200 mint cleaner a year ago on our laminate flooring and it has been a great helper, no more back breaking manual cleaning under the beds and free us to do other stuff. So we decided to buy the 5200 a month back.

and here are the observations:

Pro:

- Much better battery life than 4200, it now covers a lot more area.
- Much reduced battery charging time. It takes 7-8 hours for the 4200, not really an issue if you let it charge overnight. The 5200 charges in about 2 hours. Good for those spring cleaning / emergency visitor days.
- The universal charger adapter allows for use around the world (or at least here in Singapore: 230v, 13amp) without need to buy step up or down transformers.
- The mopping pad containing a water reservoir is surprisingly simple, elegant and effective. Simplicity is the epitome of good design.
- Love their included C batteries, wiping and mopping cloths.
- As usual, love the option to use disposable swiffer or any dust papers instead of the cloths. You are not limited for choice.

General laminate floor cleaning tips:

- Don't waste money on laminate cleaning products. Water is still the best. Tried it all, horrible mess. back to water.
- Don't use any acidic / alkaline solutions which will damage the rubber ring on the wheels. Stick to water. It's the best, really.

Pet-friendly, automated light sweeper/mopper of choice
Rating by : PuniTenshu, rating 4.0 of 5.0

The single most important thing to know about the Mint is that it is not a vacuum or a machine meant to do heavy sweeping/mopping. It is more appropriate to consider it an
automated wet or dry swiffer meant to maintain areas with hard flooring. If this is what you're looking for, then you should definitely consider the Mint.

Pros
1. Quiet for noise-phobic households or pets
2. Excellent for keeping up a dust/hair free floor once established
3. Can clean under low furniture/beds
4. Covered an 800 sq.ft. living space with multiple dividing walls well without missing ANY areas
5. Can be paused (unlike the 4200 model Mints), and resumes well.
6. Attempts to slow down and/or avoid collisions after an obstacle has been identified.
7. Can be used with reusable or consumable sweeping/mopping pads

Cons
1. Not fully autonomous
2. Can't cross some normal thresholds
3. Has trouble with short mats that have slight elevated edges in some situations
4. Mopping liquid continues dampening spot where Mint sits after finishing cycle
5. Requires much attention if floors aren't already clean
6. Requires moving complex objects from floor for best performance (i.e. chairs if you want it to clean under tables perfectly).
7. Gets confused when attacked by pets.

I bought this after my wife mentioned that we wouldn't be getting any more pets after our current pair bit the dust since she couldn't stand the shag carpeting that they
perpetually distributed on our hard flooring. We've got a Corgi (commonly known to have two shedding seasons: January to June and July to December) and a Scottish Fold who's even worse during a couple months of the year. In addition to being a constant driving force behind domestic entropy, our dog also happens to go insane when any appliance generates ANY sort of loud sound and will circle it whilst barking at the top of his lungs and sporadically snap at it and ram it with his nose (if he can reach it)--so a Roomba would be absolutely out of the question. The only sounds the Mint makes are generated as it rolls about (soft whir) and a couple beeps when it starts and stops.

If you're in our situation, then expect to run the Mint+ no less than once a week (we run it twice). If you try to use the Mint+ without getting the floors decent beforehand,
expect to see something like a giant dung beetle rolling a tumbleweed of fur around unless you pull the hair off of it every few minutes. Prep for a normal run involves moving
our dining room chairs out of the area, dropping the Northstar cube on the dining room table, and rolling up the edges of our goza mat (a mat that's just the top layer of a tatami mat).

So far we've been impressed with its ability to find every area of our main living space (a partially divided living/dining/den area with lots of little nooks between mutliple rugs and furniture items). Whatever logic underlies it's cleaning strategy sometimes makes some odd choices that result in it zipping to various remote locations and then quickly returning to a small chunk right next to where it started, but it has managed to completely cover our house. This is within realistic expectations of course--if you're hoping that it'll get every inch under a table where 24 chair legs are present, that's not going to happen unless they are very widely spaced and evenly distributed. When paused it also finds its way back to where it was last working very well, provided you return it to its starting location as specified in the instructions. Not sure why the designers opted to force you to put it back where it started rather than have it continue from where it was paused, but it still gets the job done with minimal effort. Upon encountering obstacles, the Mint seems to memorize them, and when traveling near them during it's current cycle will slow down to minimize the risk/force of bumping into them. It even slows down as it approaches our couch fringe despite never actually being impeded by it.

If you've got low mats with a slightly elevated edging, the Mint+ can have trouble with them, especially if it encounters them in a confined area as it can back onto the mat
without sensing the edge, and then end up trapped on the mat for eternity (since it will sense the edging around the mat when it tries to move forward again). It does well with heavier rugs, but not so hot with goza mats. This problem can be easily avoided by curling the edges of such mats so the Mint+ has a more obvious obstacle to avoid.

The largest drawbacks for us, are that the Mint does not charge itself or support scheduled cleaning, and that it can't cross many normal thresholds. For instance, our foyer and kitchen are separated from the living area by ~1/4" high strips of stained wood, which prevents the Mint from entering. Granted, this limitation is what also prevents it from avoiding swiffering rugs, so it's an acceptable trade off that is only minimally inconvenient as you can just toss the Mint into the next room once the current room is finished.

Also, another potentially major pitfall is that the cleaning solution in the reservoir you use when mopping is passively wicked onto the cleaning pad. This works fine provdided it uses all the water during cleaning or if you put it away as soon as it's finished. If you don't, then the Mint will park itself once it's done cleaning and just sit there and ooze the remainder of the liquid into that spot, which could be damaging if you have moisture-sensitive flooring. So overall, the Mint is an excellent dry sweeper that can be left to do its own thing with no supervision, but mopping is best left to being done when someone's around to take care of it.

We didn't make use of the multiple Northstar cube capability as it did just fine with a single one in our setup.
