Designed for 5 Star resorts, the new Ozeri Ultra 42" Tower Fan boasts a sophisticated and stylish ultra-slim design and one of the most impressive feature sets among tower fans. The Ozeri Ultra Tower Fan's stylish design complements and enhances room decor, and its precise engineering generates more air velocity than competing models while emitting less noise on a foot-per-minute to dB basis. Setting a new benchmark for noiseless airflow, the Ozeri Ultra Tower Fan operates at 3 whisper-quiet speed settings and oscillates 90 degrees for timely relief on a sweltering summer day or for refreshing circulation all year long. The Ozeri Ultra Tower Fan also includes 3 selectable airflow patterns designed to foster sleep, relaxation and comfort. All of the Fan's features, including a room temperature display, are illuminated on the Fan's multi-colored bright LED screen, and can be activated via the included enhanced-range remote or via the built-in control panel. The Ozeri Ultra Tower Fan also features a 12 hour timer that can be programmed in 1 hour increments with push-button ease, and ships included with a removable extension column that adjusts the Fan's height from 32" to 42".

Not bad at all.

By default I'm a skeptic. Especially when it comes to products I'm not familiar with. I'm not the type to just go out and buy something for the sake of buying it. I have to thoroughly research or contemplate why I'm spending my hard earned cash on the product that I'm purchasing. I didn't think I would NEED a fan let alone a nicer tower fan versus the conventional fans.

Let me just say that after decades of use of a conventional fan this tower fan is amazing. The airflow is superb and the design is excellent. I wasn't so sure about the height of the fan being at 42' but I've adjusted it to its lowest level so it's not too prominent in the living room. Sweeps the room very nicely and the timer is a perfect addition to the product. The product literally FEELS solid. I have to have a product that FEELS solid. It can't creak or anything that makes it feel like its cheaply made.

Impressed and happy with it.

Excellent fan mechanism, but everything else is sub-par

I purchased this fan above all others on Amazon given its raving reviews. What I received was in no way worthy of 5 stars; 3.5, maybe 4 at best. The fan has both pros and cons, with the cons being negative enough to warrant my review and my rating.

The pros:

* The fan/blower mechanism is extremely quiet, even on the 3rd setting (high speed); I'd guess maybe 31-32dB. If you've used Vornado products, or generic box fans on high speed, you will be thrilled by the noise difference. You can easily use this fan in a bedroom while sleeping, especially a guest bedroom.

* The fan, on high speed mode, blows air a pretty good distance (given how thin the unit is) -- a gust of air is detectable easily at the 10-12 foot mark, but past that it begins to dissipate.

* The digital readout is quite visible (no more squinting at liquid crystal displays!), and the user interface (both layout and usability) are excellent. The readout might actually be a problem for some (when used in a dark room, given how bright the LEDs are).

* Assembly is extremely easy (a Philips screwdriver is required), though the instructions are terse and leave you wondering what screws to use where. Certain screws/parts can only be used in certain ways, meaning there's no way you can assemble the unit incorrectly.

The cons:

* The circular base of the unit is made of extremely thin, malleable plastic -- it's unstable. It's affixed to the fan itself using four wing-nut screws. The base comes in two pieces and snaps together, with circular rods on one piece that go into holes in the other (in attempt to provide better stability). The base, when affixed to the main unit itself, tends to work acceptably well -- except for when it oscillates (keep reading). Just be aware it's made of thin plastic and has absolutely no weight to it.

* The cylindrical height extension piece (visible in the Amazon photo) raises the unit by about 6-8 inches. It affixes to the main unit using four 1/4" screws, and the circular base then affixes to that using four wing-nut screws. The extension piece is also made of hollow, thin, cheap plastic. The end result is a fan that, when oscillating, tends to wobble -- the product I received wobbles to the point where I do not feel safe using the oscillation feature out of concern that the unit will fall over. I actually need to raise the fan up about a foot (the windows in my flat are quite high from the floor), but I don't risk doing this given the unit's instability.

* In case it's not apparent (it wasn't to me prior to purchase), the fan IS NOT height-adjustable on-the-fly.

* Another reviewer mentioned this problem too: the oscillation mechanism tends to "click" when moving back and forth. On mine, it clicks repetitively at certain points, causing the entire fan to jerk to get past whatever the issue is. Combine this issue with the aforementioned unstable stand, and you've got an oscillation feature that is basically worthless. From all the raving reviews, I would say most of the units do not have this problem, but it's brings into question how valid the "QA assurance" sticker is.

* The remote control uses rubber buttons, while the enclosure of the remote control itself is hard plastic. The rubber is too soft; when you push down a button, about 3 out of 4 times the button will get stuck under the hard plastic lip/edge, forcing you to try and figure out how to pry them free. Solving this is as simple as using harder plastic, or taller buttons that can't be pushed down as far.

* The AC cord snakes through the base of the unit and is held in place using plastic clips. My unit had plastic clips which had been stretched open, so the AC cord is never held in place; if I move the fan I'm forced to re-adjust the AC cord every time. A cheap metal hinge-clip would solve this issue completely.

* Packing material, like another review stated, is a disgrace. The cardboard used is extremely thin (guaranteed to be recycled cardboard), and my product arrived with numerous large (3-4") holes in it, in addition to many pieces of the foam supports inside being broken in half. If you get a product that's borderline defective like mine, ask yourself just how you're going to go about re-packing the thing and shipping it back to Amazon?

Overall summary/opinion:

For a product that retails for almost US$100, I'm disappointed. Use of heavier-duty plastic would be a blessing, especially for the base and the height extension piece. The oscillation mechanism problem should have been caught during QA testing before this unit left the factory. These things really brought my opinion of the product down a few notches. Maybe the issue was tht I had such high hopes given the amazing reviews (compared to other products). But as stated, the fan/blower mechanism is quite good. If Ozeri redesigned the casing and the stand, but kept the digital readout and the fan/blower mech, they'd have a excellent, top-notch product.

I will be keeping my Ozeri fan, using it as a stationary fan in my bedroom. But there's no way I can use this in my living room given the issues. I wish I had an alternate product to recommend, but sadly I don't. I'll be looking at the Vornado 184 Tower Circulator (model FA1-0024-06 on Amazon) for my living room -- I just hope I don't get a unit that has a misaligned rotor...

Great Fan, at first

I replaced a standard tower fan bought at a common big box store. This is just a couple inches taller and really moves the air. It almost seems like my old fan didn't even work. It costs a little more, but well worth it.

Update: I gave a 5 star review when I first purchased it. After a few months, it started making a loud noise like a piece of plastic was jammed into the blades (make you jump out of your chair kind of loud). I then had to remove the back and leave it off to re-set the blades. Now 10 months later, it jams up almost everytime I use it. I'm searching for a new fan now, when I ran across this fan and my old 5 star rating.
